Windows Vista prices – Real or bogus?
August 28th, 2006
UPDATE:
Here's what a Microsoft Spokesperson has to say about these prices:
Microsoft inadvertently posted Windows Vista Canadian retail prices on their Web site, and the information has since been removed. There is no new pricing information to share currently but we plan to announce Windows Vista U.S. pricing when we ship Windows Vista RC1, later this quarter.
Ed Bott, fellow blogger at ZDNet, offers his view of the whole affair.

I'm trying to figure out whether the prices quoted on Neowin for Windows Vista are real or bogus. The claim is that Vista pricing appeared on Microsoft.com Canada and that Windows Vista Ultimate was listed at $499 Canadian ($450.36 USD) while Home Premium was listed at $299 Canadian (or $269.86 USD).
Vista Ultimate Upgrade was listed at $299 Canadian (or $269.86 USD), while Home Premium Upgrade cost $199 Canadian (or $179.60 USD). I don't trust these conversions for a number of reasons so you can't use them as a benchmark for anything.
Like I said, this could all be bogus ... the page is gone at any rate. I've contacted Microsoft's PR folks for clarification.
