XML patent claim

October 21st, 2005

A company called Scientigo holds two patents which covers the transfer of data “in neutral forms” (details here and here).

I’ve read around this a bit and I can’t help but feel that this might have more to do with Scientigo trying to increase their profile rather than any real attempt to cash in (although I’m not ruling out that this is another case of patent trolling, where companies try to cash in on software users). Either way, it's taken them a long time to lay claim on XML - one wonders where they've been for the last few years.

XML’s been around a long time and I seriously doubt that this is going to go very far – a quick scan through the patent office database shows numerous patents relating to XML.
