iPhone … dissected!

The guys at [1] AnandTech have got their hands on an iPhone and rather than play with it, they decided to put it on the operating table and take it apart.

Some thoughts ...
PS3 firmware update time

Sony has released updated firmware for the PS3 games console.
Firmware version [1] 1.82 adds the following features :
If you're a PS3 console owner and you have games that haven't worked so far then this update might bring you some relief. Unfortunately, because Sony don't list the games that this new firmware adds support for, you have to either search the database or suck it and see.
eBay tries to prevent iFraud

The iPhone has been hyped to the point that buyers looking to get an iOrgasm iPhone on eBay need protecting from themselves and potential scammers. Because of this [1] eBay has put restrictions in place on the sale of iPhones . Here are the restrictions (my thoughts in italics):
Unfortunately, some sellers are flouting the rules and no one is enforcing them. I’ve still managed to find loads of iPhones for pre-sale on eBay.
To be honest, I’d give eBay a wide berth. Not only is there still a chance of being scammed but prices are likely to be nuts - remember, the person who wins an auction is the one that’s willing to pay the most!
DigiGuide is great!

Unless you live in the UK, feel free to look away because this doesn't apply to you ...
I don't watch much in the way of TV but there are shows and movies that I will sit down and watch. In order to better schedule my TV viewing I got a DVR (a digital video recorder) for my birthday (a Sky+ box). But I've still been looking for a good TV guide that I can use to plan what I want to watch and record. The Sky subscription allows me access to the channel guide but I find this a pain to navigate and searching for anything is next to impossible.
Then I came across a service called [1] DigiGuide . This is described as "the ultimate downloadable desktop PC TV and Radio Guide with support for over 500 UK and Ireland channels including high definition channels." After having used it for a few days, I agree. It's fantastic. It costs £9.99 a year but it's so good that I paid up for a subscription until 2012! What I like is not only the fact that I can search for programs and movies I want to watch (even actors in programs and movies) but it also shows me detailed program descriptions and I can also set reminders. I also like the multiple views I can have to the listings and how the program updates itself automatically without needing any user intervention.
To top all that off, I can run a single subscription on up to three PCs!
Excellent program! [2] I thoroughly recommend it !
Had a blast yesterday!

I had a blast yesterday - we spent several enjoyable few hours chucking various cases (from Stormcase, Otterbox, Peli and Seahorse) over a 90ft cliff and capturing the action on video. It was a great deal of fun and the results were interesting (and spectacular). We also answer the question "can you throw an egg off a 90ft and have it survive?"
I'll post the results of this test (and a few others) in a couple of days when we've had time to sort through the video and photos!
Fake Microsoft Office security warning email

Be on the lookout for a [1] fake Microsoft security bulletin email making the rounds :
If you (or someone you know) receives an e-mail about a zero-day exploit affecting Microsoft Outlook do not, under any circumstances, click on the links embedded in the message. It’s a phishing scam folks. The Security Bulletin (MS07-0065) it points to doesn’t exist. And just because it can never be said too often, I’ll say it again here. Microsoft does not alert users to security issues via e-mail. Ever. That’s what Windows Update is for. Details from Sophos are available [2] here .
