On publishing …

July 24th, 2005

"A book agent I know tells me that at leat half the people he meets who are writing the first book, are doing so not because they have anything particualrly interesting to say, but because the idea of "the writer's life" appeals to them."

Don't I know it! I don't know how many dead trees I've worked my way through recently only to get to the end and wonder "what was all that about?"

Seth Godin has some other great comments:

"Please understand that book publishing is an organized hobby, not a business."

"There is no such thing as effective book promotion by a book publisher."

"Publishing is like venture capital, not like printing."

But the comment I like the most is:

"Always beware free advice. It is worth what it costs!" 😀
