Vista/Disk Cleanup bug

August 20th, 2008

Over the past few months a number of readers have emailed me to let me know of a Windows Vista/Disk Cleanup bug that they've come across. It seems that this bug can hose your OS and cause severe data loss.

I've not come across the bug personally but it is well documented over on the Winhelponline blog.

A symptom of this bug is that Disk Cleanup offers to rid your system of a huge number of error reports.

These files, as it turns out, are the files on the system volume.

The blog has developed a registry fix that they claim will solve the problem.

Keep your eyes peeled when using Disk Cleanup, and always have a backup handy!
