IE7 updated
October 5th, 2007
Microsoft has made a few tweaks to IE7 and they way it's delivered to customers.
Here are the highlights:
- Validation that you OS is genuine is no longer required for XP users (IE 7 is pre-installed on Vista)
- The menu bar is now visible by default.
- The Internet Explorer 7 online tour has updated how-to’s.
- A new MSI installer that simplifies deployment for IT admins
I'm still wondering why Microsoft decided to drop Windows Genuine Advantage validation for XP users. I'm wondering if IE7 take up by the "I pirated XP" demographic was a little weak or something. Maybe this is a way of getting more people to run the Malicious Software Removal Tool (which you have a choice of using during the installation), which would be a very good thing indeed.
