Fix stuck pixels and burn-in on LCD and plasma screens with JScreenFix
January 2nd, 2007
A couple of posts that I made last year on fixing stuck pixels on LCD screens using the massaging technique proved pretty popular so I thought I'd pass on information about a new utility that I've come across for fixing dead pixels. It's called JScreenFix.
JScreenFix was developed as a special component for the Java Announcement Display System. JScreenFix is based on the observation that untuned analog TV channels are particularly effective at fixing stuck pixels and removing burn-in. Every coloured cell on the screen is randomly turned on and off at up to 60 times a second by JScreenFix. The time between on and off is random which helps re-energise stuck pixels through resonance and repetition. The result is an increase in contrast and normalisation of colour levels in plasma and LCD screens. JScreenFix will also fix stuck pixels on LCD projectors but will not work on CRT screens.
JScreenFix can quickly fix faulty red, green and blue pixels visible on a black background. Additional success has been noted with repairing yellow, teal, purple and white pixels (sometimes these colour's revert to red green or blue before complete repair). Numerous users have reported that JScreenFix significantly improves picture quality on older LCD screens when left running for one hour or more.
On the JScreenFix web site you'll find a number of different versions available, suitable for PCs, PDAs, cell phones, LCD TVs, etc. While I've not yet tried the utility out on an actual stuck pixel (I'll try that out later on), the theory behind the application is sound enough and there's a good chance that it will work. Since JScreenFix is free, what have you got to lose?
