Blocking IE7 from being installed via Automatic Update
October 9th, 2006
Microsoft is getting ready to ship Internet Explorer 7 via Automatic Update any day now. However, you might not be ready for it just yet. If you want to have a little more time to think about the implications of installing IE7 then you might want to download and apply the block IE7 registry patch.
Applying this patch is easy:
- Download the patch
- Right-click on the patch and click Merge
- Click Run if the Security Warning dialog is displayed
- Click Yes to confirm that you want the change made to the registry
- Click OK
Internet Explorer 7 won't be available via Windows Update unless you undo the registry change made above. You can undo the change using the allow IE7 patch (the steps for applying this patch is the same as for the block IE patch).
