15 ways to disable and remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (WGA) nags

June 22nd, 2006

If you release a program with Windows Update that is designed to identify systems running pirated copies of Windows, you'd better make sure that the mechanism is reliable.  Microsoft has recently scored an own-goal with the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (WGA) nag program, which not only seems to nag those with a dodgy cop of Windows, but also seems to accuse those with a genuine copy of being pirates.

Once installed, there's no easy way to remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications program, but My Digital Life has posted an article called "Disable and Remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications Nag Screen".  I think that page three of the article (here) offers the best solution - make the download visible in Add/Remove and uninstall it - just remember not to download KB905474 again!).
