Keep cooling your PC after switching it off – RD7 Cooling After

June 14th, 2006

When you switch off your PC, the power goes off but that doesn't mean that temperature goes down on the system immediately.  In fact, the temperature inside your case can rise after switching the PC off because you've killed the power to all the fans as well.

If you're worried about this then IOSS have the answer - it's called the RD7 Cooling After

RD7 Cooling AfterFitting this is simple - You connect the main cable to the Wake On LAN header on the motherboard (or, if you don't have a WOL header, use the ATX power cable jumper available with the RD7-ATX version of the Cooling After) and then hook up the fans to it.  You then choose how long you want it to keep cooling after you turn off the power (1, 3, 5 & 10 minutes) and that's all there is to it.  The RD7 is a small device (50mm x 52mm) and has screw-holes and Velcro for easy mounting (I just wish it had a plastic casing - would be a lot better I think).

I'm pretty pleased with my RD7 - I just wish it had the capability to output 12 Volts so I could run my water-cooler pump too!
