Superb power supply tips by Ed Bott

May 28th, 2005

Some great advice by Ed Bott on keeping track of the multitude of power supplies we techie people seem to gather.

Personally, rather than add a sticker to the power supply unit itself, I prefer to tag the cables with stickers instead. Power supplies (especially here in the UK where we use 240v as opposed to 110v) tend to get hot and pretty soon I find that the sticker's adhesive has given up and the label falls off.

When gathering data on your power supply, along with input voltage, output voltage and output current, check the polarity of the output jack too and make sure that this matches the polarity of the device.
