Unpatched Internet Explorer vulnerability hitting users

March 27th, 2006

The latest unpatched Internet Explorer security vulnerability is now starting to hit users nowReports are circulating that more than 200 web sites, many belonging to legitimate businesses and organizations, have been hacked and seeded with code that attempts to take advantage of this vulnerability.  As the working day starts in the US we can only expect this problem to get worse.

At present there is no patch for this vulnerability and there's no word from Microsoft as to whether a patch could be released early for this.  The only realistic defense at present is to not use Internet Explorer or disable scripting

Now, don't get me wrong, but given the severity of this Internet Explorer bug, I'd have expected more information about it to be flowing from Microsoft.  However, as usual, Microsoft are tight-lipped as to what they are going to do about it and not offering much at all in the way of advice either for those affected or those wanting to defend against it.  There's no word even from Scoble, who instead spent the end of last week and part of the weekend on the 60& rewrite of Windows Vista code and arguing with other bloggers about credible vs. non-credible journalists.  Hmmmm.  Priorities people! It's getting harder and harder to put the phrase "Internet Explorer" and the word "security" together in a credible way.
