There seems to be an infinite number of ways to lose data - but as a rule it usually involves couriers and unencrypted backup tapes!

The really scary thing is that there is very little that any of us ordinary people can do to protect ourselves against potential identity theft from lost data - apart from voting with our feet and leave companies that are careless with our data.
