Gmail antivirus – powered by Sophos?

December 6th, 2005

There's been a lot of discussion as to who provided the antivirus scanning capability for Google's Gmail email service.  The easiest way to find out is to carry out some testing and see what it catches - and according to thebillygoatcurse.com the provider is Sophos.  After some quick testing I've come to the same conclusion - the scanner does appear to be supplied by Sophos.

If this is right then this is a very good thing - Sophos is a very reliable and realistic company indeed!  There's no word from Sophos yet as to whether this is true or not.
