AbiWord – An alternative to Microsoft Word and OpenOffice

December 3rd, 2005

Want a word processor but don't want the expense of Microsoft Word or complexity of OpenOffice?  Take a look at AbiWord

AbiWordIt's small (the download is around 5 MB), it's versatile (AbiWord is able to read and write many industry standard document types, such as OpenOffice.org documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, HTML web pages and many more), there's a version for Windows, MAC, Linux, QNX, FreeBSD and Solaris and it is nice and easy to use.  To top all that AbiWord has plugin capabilities and can also carry out mail merges.

I like AbiWord, not so much on my main desktop PC or laptop but I find it handy to carry around on my USB key (I like having a portable office with me at all times!).

As far as word processing goes, I much prefer AbiWord to OpenOffice (especially OpenOffice.org 2.0).

Check it out!
